In this tutorial, I'll show you how to apply a layer style to any shape to get a similar effect,
- Tools needed: Photoshop CS+ (recommended CS5)

Start out on a blank canvas of any size as long as it's big enough for a 32x32 icon
Step 2
Now, there are two kinds of chrome buttons: the square icon, or the normal shape. The square will have a whole square of the blue, and the shape on the inside in silver. The normal shape will just be a shape with the blue layer effects. First I'll show you how to make the blue layer effect so you can use that for either, then additionally I'll show you how to make the shape inside.
Here are the effects you should apply to a 32x32 px square with 2pt rounded corners, or a shape on it's own.
Tip: To make the square that size, press the Rounded Rectangle(a small triangle) options and choose Fixed Size
- The shape should be a mask of the color #52617c
- Apply a drop shadow.
- Apply an inner shadow.
And you should one of these:
Step 3 (for the shape inside the square)
Choose your shape that will fit into the square and center it. Then make it a mask of a gradient of #fafafa and #dfdfdf , aligned with layer, 135 angle, 100 scale.
Next apply these layer effects: drop shadow and inner shadow.
And you should get something like this:
